The Role

We are seeking a Firmware Developer to work as part of an inventive and creative engineering team to help design and build robotic machine tools. The successful Firmware Developer will report the company CTO working as part of a growing team of software and design engineers to develop the embedded control systems for robotic tools. The Firmware Developer will work with the software team and design engineers to develop the embedded control software for robotics and automation and create efficient algorithms for the calibration and control of the tooling. The Firmware Developer will create clear and concise annotation and documentation and will have excellent knowledge of data structures and designing for performance

Q5D is a young, fast growing company that is developing robotic machinery to add electrical function to products in the aerospace, automotive and other industries. Q5D’s technology uses additive manufacturing techniques, laser-sintered printed electronics combined with sophisticated CAD/CAM software to automate manufacturing.

About You

  • Good programming skills in high-level languages – We currently use C, Java
  • Knowledge of SoC, FPGA, Embedded Software
  • Experience with automation protocols, eg etherCAT, Modbus, CAN, SPI, RS232/422
  • Knowledge of electronics and hardware schematic
  • A relevant degree (such as computer Science, Physics or mathematics) or its equivalent
  • Image processing (eg OpenCV, MATLAB)
  • Good mathematical skills
  • Knowledge of algorithms
  • Experience of working in a project environment, e.g. Jira, Agile, Scrum
  • Experience in development of machine tools, e.g. synchronous movements
