Q5D is seeking an engineer to work as part of an inventive and creative engineering team to help design and build Q5D robotic machine tools.

Q5D is a young, fast growing company that is developing robotic machinery to add electrical function to products in the aerospace, automotive and other industries. Q5D’s technology uses additive manufacturing techniques and laser-sintered printed electronics combined with sophisticated CAD/CAM software to automate manufacturing.

The successful candidate will report to the company CTO, overseeing the design, manufacture and testing of Q5D robotic machine tools. Using parametric CAD to detail and build prototypes leading to scaled manufacturing.

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. To work as part of the Q5D team develop the Q5D robotic tools including motion frames, end-effectors and ancillary functions.
  2. To use Siemens NX CAD to design the tools
  3. To use Siemens NX CAM to run and test the tools
  4. To work as part of the team to build and test the prototype machine tools
  5. BOM and Supplier management
  6. To write reports and communicate effectively both internally and with customers

  • Experience in using Siemens NX CAD, similar CAD packages considered
  • A minimum of 5-year’s relevant industrial experience
  • Experience with high level programming languages
  • Experience in running projects
  • Experience or knowledge of CNC or multi-axis machine tool operation would be desirable
  • Some knowledge of additive manufacturing in particular is desirable
  • Design for manufacture
  • BOM and supplier management
  • Experience with a wide range of manufacturing techniques and processes
  • Some knowledge and experience of machine tools regulation eg machine directive, ISO9001
